Labor Day Weekend 2018 offers myriad music festival opportunities for fans in Virginia, North Carolina

Listen up music festival lovers: Labor Day Weekend 2018 has plenty of opportunities in North Carolina, Virginia and beyond.

Following is your Labor Day Weekend guide:

Appaloosa Roots Music Festival — Front Royal, Virginia

Appaloosa, the Washington, D.C. area’s Roots Music and Great Outdoors Festival, is held at the gorgeous Skyline Ranch Resort in Front Royal. Appaloosa is nestled among the stunning backdrop of the Blue Ridge Mountains, in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley Wine Trail, just one hour from the nation’s capital and Charlottesville.

Celtic-minded roots rockers Scythian, a MerleFest and Bristol Rhythm and Roots fan favorite, hosts this three-day roots music festival which this year also features headliners Gaelic Storm, Mandolin Orange, Town Mountain, Fireside Collective, and many more.

Front Porch Fest  — Stuart, Virginia

This Labor Day marks the 10th annual Front Porch Fest, which has been dubbed “Homecoming.” This low-key music and camping fest annual event is held on the Front Porch of the Blue Ridge Mountains at the bucolic and picturesque Spirithaven Farm just outside Stuart in Patrick County, Virginia.

Front Porch Fest is a three-day family-friendly music festival featuring local, regional, and national touring acts including the Perpetual Groove, Zach Deputy, The Larry Keel Experience, Big Daddy Love, Annabelle’s Curse, and the Couldn’t Be Happiers, among many more.

In addition to 30-plus bands, Front Porch Fest features an array of children’s activities, yoga, campsite jams, on-site camping, delicious craft brews and foods, and more.

Floyd Yoga Jam — Floyd County, Virginia

Approaching its seventh year, the Floyd Yoga Jam is a four-day celebration of yoga, art, and music in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Floyd. This year’s eclectic line-up includes Oddisee & Good Company, Phoebe Hunt & the Gatherers, and Dangermuffin.

NORTH CAROLINA

Happy Valley Old-Time Fiddlers’ Convention – Lenoir, North Carolina 

At the resting place of Tom Dooley’s lamented victim, Laura Foster, musicians and music lovers gather each Labor Day weekend to pay homage to the legends and stories of the Yadkin River Valley. The festival includes 11 categories of competition for old time and bluegrass bands and musicians, and band performances, plus children’s activities, food vendors and more.

John Coltrane International Jazz and Blues Festival – High Point, North Carolina

The Labor Day weekend festival is sponsored by The Friends of John Coltrane, which works to preserve and celebrate the life and music of John Coltrane and to enrich the lives of others through the introduction of jazz and other musical genres. The festival is in its 8th year in 2018.
