Yarn, Will Overman Band to perform Cinco de Mayo show at The Blind Tiger

I discovered two of my favorite bands — Yarn and Will Overman Band — at the annual Rooster Walk Music and Arts Festival just outside Martinsville, Virginia. Rooster Walk 9 is set for May 25-28, 2017. Yarn, a perennial favorite will be there, but unfortunately, Will Overman Band will not. Rooster Walk needs to work on that for RW10.

In the meantime, fans of both bands can catch these alt-country, folk, roots rockers beginning at 9 p.m. on Friday, May 5, just south down U.S. Highway 220 at The Blind Tiger, 1819 Spring Garden St., in Greensboro, North Carolina. Tickets are a bargain at a mere $10.

Near the campus of UNC-G, the venue is a great place to see a show as I learned when I saw Scythian perform there in March 2016. The Celtic rockers, who just wowed the MerleFest crowds with FOUR performances in one day, recorded much of the band’s live album, Scythian Live Vol. 1, at that show so that should tell you something about the sound quality.

North Carolina-based Yarn’s latest album, “This Is The Year,” was up for Grammy consideration and is, in my humble opinion, the band’s best yet. I reviewed it when it was released last year.

Will Overman Band is a Charlottesville, Virginia-based group led by singer-songwriter Will Overman. The band released its first full-length album of the same name in 2016 as well. It was, again in my humble opinion, one of the best albums to come out last year and remains high on my play list. I reviewed it as well.

But don’t take my word for it, come out and celebrate Cinco de Mayo (which for the unaware was a famous Mexican battle that folks south of the border find it strange that Anglos celebrate) by indulging in some cold cervezas and listening to some hot music. But get your tickets soon, this show is sure to be a sell out. Hope to see you there!
