HoustonFest celebrates the life of young banjo picker, Houston Caldwell (more info here) with two days of stellar bluegrass, oldtime and country music artists. Held annually the second weekend in June, the 2017 festival is set for June 9-10 at Felts Park, 601 South Main St., in Galax, Virginia. The gates open at 10 a.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday.

This year’s impressive lineup includes the Earls of Leicester with Jerry Douglas, John Berry, Flatt Lonesome, the Church Sisters, Emi Sunshine, Shadowgrass and the Snyder Family Band, among many others

Musicians are encouraged to bring instruments to the several jam tents that will be available on site, organizers say.

GVFD offers on-site camping at Felts Park. Tents are $15 per day, campers are $25 per day. For other lodging, campground and dining info visit  http://www.visitgalax.com/

Ample parking is available throughout City of Galax within walking distance of the park.

There is limited stadium seating at the venue so attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or camping chair.

Numerous local artisans will be on hand to sell their wares. The participating bands will be available to sell their merchandise, as well. There will be multiple food vendors, however, it should be noted that this is a non-alcoholic event.

Advance tickets are $20 a day or $30 for a two-day pass. Tickets at the gate are $25. Children 12 and younger are admitted free with paying adult.
