HoustonFest is an annual bluegrass and old-time music festival, celebrating song and service, which is held at Felts Park, 601 South Main St., in Galax, Virginia, on the second weekend in June. HoustonFest 2016 is set for Friday, June 10, through Saturday, June 11.
The festival was started in to celebrate the life of young banjo picker, Houston Caldwell with two days of more than 35 stellar bluegrass, oldtime and country music artists performing on four stages.
This year’s headliners include Ricky Skaggs and the Blue Kentucky Thunder, Flat Lonesome, Lonesome River Band, Blue Highway, Annabelle’s Curse, The Church Sisters, Dori Freeman, South Carolina Broadcasters, among others.
Caldwell died on April 30, 2010, at 18 years old, but his musical legacy, passion for the continued growth of our musical heritage, and his spirit of community service as a volunteer firefighter will continue through HoustonFest.
