The Black Lillies and Mipso are among the headliners at MerleFest favorite Scythian‘s second annual roots music Appaloosa Festival set for Labor Day Weekend, Sept. 3-4, in Front Royal, Virginia, which is about an hour from Washington, D.C., in the stunning Shenandoah Valley.
Other acts include Marie Miller, Humming House, Billy Strings, Socks in the Frying Pan, Six-String Soldiers, The Accidentals, Lowland Hum and Bumper Jacksons.
The family friendly festival that includes camping formally announced its 2016 musical lineup and early-bird ticket sales today.

Scythian, the festival host band, was named Best D.C. Band two years running by Washington City Paper and headlines the Celtic and American festival circuits. The Black Lillies have topped the Billboard charts, and dominate Americana radio, while Mipso’s latest album debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Bluegrass chart. Humming Houswas praised by The Huffington Post as a Top 15 of 2015 Festival Act, and Socks in the Frying Pan was recently named No. 1 New Band in Ireland. Marie Miller played for Pope Francis and an audience of 3/4 million, alongside Aretha Franklin, and Andrea Bocelli. The Accidentals were designated by Billboard as a Top 7 Breakout Act at SXSW, and Lowland Hum was recently featured on the exclusive NPR Tiny Desk Concert series. Part of the popular touring U.S. Army Field Band, Six-String Soldiers has appeared on Conan, while DC-area favorites The Bumper Jacksons include two Strathmore Artists in Residence.
Other festival headliners include Karikatura, Gothard Sisters, Moore Brothers, The Fitzgeralds, The Collection, Bud’s Collective, Kevin Heider, and Robbie Limon.
The Appaloosa Festival will again be held at Skyline Ranch Resort, nestled among the beautiful backdrop of the Blue Ridge Mountains, in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley Wine Trail. This family-friendly festival offers free admission for children younger than 13, on-site camping, music workshops by festival headliners, horseback riding, a petting zoo, fishing pond, playground, mini-golf, and much more.
Skyline Ranch Resort is just a few miles from the main entrance to Shenandoah National Park with rafting, hiking, biking and wineries nearby.Appaloosa Festival 2015 drew a crowd of more than 3,000 from up and down the East Coast, and as far away as California.
Ten percent of festival profits go to charities. Additionally, the Appaloosa Blue Ridge Arts Foundation has just been launched, a non-profit dedicated to mentorship and scholarship opportunities for up-and-coming young musicians.
