FloydFest is getting a jumpstart on the summer 2016 music festival season with the announcement of its initial lineup along with a couple of surprises.
Heading into its 15th event, FloydFest is taking advantage of the upcoming leap year and syncing the festival’s number – FloydFest 16 — with the year, confirmed co-founder Erika Johnson, whom I ran into Saturday night at The Phoenix in Roanoke, Virginia, where the Will Overman Band and The Floorboards were co-headlining a Halloween show.
Why? Why not? “It will help end a lot of confusion and we’re doing it because we can,” she added with a laugh.
Set for July 27-31, this festival theme will be “Dreamweavin’” and will feature a hidden stage on site that will act as host to FloydFest 15.
The initial musical lineup announcement includes FloydFest veterans Bruce Hornsby and the Noisemakers, Railroad Earth, Anders Osborne and Pimps of Joytime along with newcomers Shakey Graves, The Wood Brothers, Elephant Revival and the Monophonics.
Other artists lined up are Nahko and Medicine for the People, Rich Robinson, the Otis Taylor Band, The Larry Keel Experience, Con Brio, Banditos, The Legendary Shack Shakers, Dustbowl Revival, Head for the Hills, Honey Island Swamp Band and The Congress.
Early bird tickets went on sale Sunday, Nov. 1, at noon. Prices go up Jan. 1.
FloydFest co-founder Kris Hodges says the headliners for FloydFest, held just off the Blue Ridge Parkway at milemarker 170.5, have yet to be announced. He promises to release more names on Nov. 30, just in time for holiday shopping. No indication as to whether Jerry Douglas, the Will Overman Band, The Floorboards or Annabelle’s Curse will be added to the lineup, but fingers crossed. I’ll keep you posted.
