Martinsville, Virginia, native Derek Bishop just released his sophomore album, “Bicycling In Quicksand.” He has the chance to perform some songs from it and more for a hometown crowd this week at The Rives Theatre downtown on Tuesday, Aug. 18.
According to The Rives Theatre Facebook page, “the 10-song record is a seamless blend of 70s disco, 80s new wave, and about 12 other genres thrown in the mix. Bishop’s gift for connecting to audiences through personal stories, splashed with a plethora of contagious melodies, boosts this singer/songwriter album into the sonic stratosphere. Quicksand — just called “one of the best indie pop records of the year.” by Echo magazine — is deep, rich, and colorful. It’s an exhibition of Bishop’s talents as a lyricist, tunesmith and arranger. Bishop is on tour this summer supporting the album.”
